The Glasgow Good Information Group (GGIG) held a research event in February which was attended by people with learning disabilities. During the research they were asked to say what happened when they got letters and what would make them easier to understand.
The Group also surveyed support workers about how they supported people to deal with their mail.
The research was carried out with the help of The Scottish Consortium of Learning Disability (SCLD) and JARCS.
Funding was awarded by the Scottish Community Research Fund (SCARF)
I have a proven track record, over many years, of organising and managing events and conferences.
In 2008, I organised the Saying it Simply Research Event and the launch of the Saying it Simply Report.
In 2006 and 2007 I organised 4 "Beyond the ..." Seminars for SAIF (Scottish Accessible Information Forum.) These Seminars raised awareness about issues relating to Accessible Information for disabled people. Further information can be found on the SAIF Website
From 1999 until 2007, I played a leading role in the organisation of Ability Fest. These one day events enable disabled people to access information about learning, education, training, volunteering and employment opportunities in Glasgow and surrounding areas. Ability Fest brings together agencies that provide specialist support and those, such as colleges, universities and learning centres, that take an inclusive approach to the provision of lifelong learning opportunities.
In 2004, as co-ordinator of the Greater Glasgow Network of Supported Employment (GGNSE), I was involved in the planning and organisation of the People with Potential Conference. This conference was aimed at raising awareness among employers about the benefits to their businesses of employing a diverse work force. It was attended by over 100 delegates, including 69 employers.
